While many of us are spending the festive season in a safe environment and with our loved ones, the people of Haiti continue to struggle with existential challenges. This has a particular impact on women with high-risk pregnancies and their newborn babies. With our Christmas donation this year, we are supporting nph Kinderhilfe Lateinamerika e. V., which does life-saving work in a high-risk maternity ward at Saint Damien Children's Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more than a decade, oneword has been a social partner of nph Kinderhilfe Lateinamerika e. V.<\/a> and has supported the organisation<\/strong> on a voluntary basis with translation services and donations. Their commitment remains essential, especially in Haiti, where inflation and shortages are further exacerbating an already critical situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criminal gangs control access to necessary goods. As a result, there are shortages and enormous price increases. Hospitals are threatened with closure due to a lack of funding, medicines, staff and fuel for the power supply. In the midst of these challenges, the high-risk maternity ward at Saint Damien Children's Hospital is an indispensable shelter. It is one of the few centres in Haiti that specialise in providing care for complicated and high-risk pregnancies. Every day, the centre treats cases that have potentially fatal complications, such as haemorrhaging, eclampsia or diabetes, which other facilities in the country are unable to cope with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With our Christmas donation, we would like to help ensure that women and children in Haiti receive the medical help they urgently need.
