Interpreting with context and emotion
For effective communication, you need a professional interpreter who not only has a command of the language but is also familiar with your specialist area. In addition, interpreters should have a good command of the relevant terminology, be well versed in technical set-ups and be able to strike the right tone with confidence.
Language alone is often not enough to convey content accurately. Tone, cultural nuances and technical terms play an equally crucial role. Misunderstandings can quickly arise, or important information can get lost, particularly when dealing with complex topics or during international meetings.

What training do our interpreters have?
Our interpreters are generally native speakers with a sound education in translation or interpreting from a university or professional school. In some German states, a state interpreting or translation examination is also offered.
In addition, interpreters specialise in domains such as business, law, medicine, marketing or technology. Some are also sworn interpreters or granted authorization to carry out notarial duties. They are authorized to provide official interpreting services for documents or contracts.
As well as linguistic precision, our interpreters bring one thing above all else: a wealth of experience and intercultural competence.
In simultaneous interpreting in particular, a confident manner, quick reflexes and a keen sense of nuance are crucial. Proficiency in computer technology is also essential for carrying out online assignments without any hiccups.

This is how we organise your interpreting assignment:
1. Detailed briefing
We prepare a comprehensive briefing for our interpreters, including the terminology you have specified, the type of event, and the target audience.
2. Selection of interpreters
Depending on the type of event (training session, lecture, etc.), we select the most suitable interpreters based on their area of specialism, language combination and qualifications. If required, we can also provide you with interpreters with authorization or sworn interpreters.
3. Briefing the interpreters
Our interpreters prepare thoroughly for each assignment by familiarising themselves with the briefing, the script and all technical terms.
4. Technical preparation
If required, we can provide the appropriate technical equipment for your project, such as conference technology or online platforms with the necessary interfaces to ensure seamless international meetings.
5. Professional implementation
Our interpreters will work with you to deliver your project, either on-site, virtually or in a hybrid format. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
6. Feedback following the assignment
We will then seek feedback from you and the interpreters to ensure that everyone involved is satisfied and to make improvements, where necessary, for the next assignment.
FAQs
What's the difference between interpreting and translation?
In interpreting, spoken content is reproduced orally in real time or with a short delay, for example in meetings, conferences or video calls. A translator, on the other hand, usually deals exclusively with written texts, which are carefully rendered into the target language.
What training do interpreters undergo?
An interpreter has usually completed a university course in interpreting. Some also sit a state interpreting examination and are additionally sworn or granted authorization. Most of them have extensive specialist knowledge in fields such as technology, business, law, medicine or marketing. They have a wealth of experience, cultural understanding and empathy, which enables them to convey content accurately and in a contextually appropriate manner.
How are interpreters’ fees calculated?
The fee depends on the type of interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive or liaison interpreting), the duration and scope of the assignment, and the subject area. The language combination, travel costs and any technology required are also factored into the calculation.
Does oneword offer sworn or authorized interpreters?
Yes, many of our interpreters are sworn, certified or authorized. In Germany, the exact term used varies depending on the federal state. However, they have all taken a general oath before a home affairs authority, a regional court or a higher regional court, and are authorised to carry out official duties before courts, authorities and other bodies. We carefully select the most suitable interpreters depending on the field of work. A sworn interpreter is not always required – we always base our approach on the specific requirements of your project.
