Haiti continues to struggle with existential challenges. Political instability, gang violence and natural disasters have been shaking the country for years. This is where nph Kinderhilfe Lateinamerika e. V. has been providing important help for over 38 years. That is why we are, once again in 2025, supporting the efforts of the children’s aid organisation in Haiti with our Christmas donation. Specifically, it is about school meals in the local nph schools.

For more than 15 years, oneword has been a social partner of nph Kinderhilfe Lateinamerika e. V. and has supported the organisation on a voluntary basis with translation services and donations. Their commitment remains essential in Haiti in particular as many other organisations have stopped providing aid there.

Unfortunately, despite ongoing political instability, gang violence and a humanitarian emergency, Haiti receives little international attention and support. At the end of October Haiti was also hit by another hurricane, destroying large parts of the country and causing many people to lose their homes.
Almost 70% of Haiti’s population suffer from inadequate nutrition and 47% even suffer from acute malnutrition. According to UNICEF estimates, around a third of children are dependent on humanitarian aid. The escalation of violence, poverty, lack of access to education and the near collapse of basic services are fuelling the mass recruitment of children into criminal gangs.

To avoid this, it is important that schools continue to be run: education, but also the prospect of a daily hot meal, saves the children from a cycle of poverty, crime and hopelessness. nph’s “Angel of Light” school in Port-au-Prince provides up to 800 children with access to education and food.
