oneword has once again met all the criteria for the translation services standard ISO 17100 and thus successfully renewed its certification. The successful completion of an audit carried out by a major automotive manufacturer also demonstrates the exceedingly high quality of all the translation service provider’s processes.

At the end of January, oneword underwent the ISO 17100 re-certification process. The language service provider was originally certified to the only internationally valid standard for translation services in May 2015. The certificate must be renewed every two years through re-examination by an independent auditor from Austrian Standards (LICS).

Outstanding results for all criteria

In addition to compliance with the principle of always having translations revised by a second professional translator (read more about this much-discussed and important topic here), oneword also looked at many other process steps and resources. Main points included:

  • Qualifications and continuing professional development of translators

  • IT and data security

  • Training, continuing professional development and competence of project managers

  • Handling of feedback

  • Complaints management

The auditor interviewed project managers, management and representatives of partner management, quality management and IT and scrutinised oneword’s processes in detail. The satisfactory result: that oneword received extremely positive feedback on all the assessed criteria!

ISO 17100 certification vs. registration with DIN CERTCO

The language service provider is therefore still one of only a few translation service providers to hold ISO 17100 certification. Many service providers register with DIN CERTCO and thus declare that their processes are in line with ISO 17100. However, this is only a declaration by the service provider itself that it conforms to the requirements of ISO 17100, which is not verified by an independent body. Official certification by Austrian Standards or other institutes testifies to the fact that a language service provider has excellent, independently verified processes in accordance with ISO 17100.

Just 45 language service providers in Germany are ISO 17100 certified – and oneword is one of them. The statistics are taken from the certification bodies operating in the German-speaking area Austrian Standards InstituteLinquaCert as well as TÜV Rheinland.

Successful pass in audit by industrial company

oneword is also delighted that its processes have been certified on the part of industry since 2016. Last year, a major automotive manufacturer and client of oneword conducted an on-site audit. As well as the criteria for ISO 17100 certification, the audit considered additional criteria such as knowledge management, documentation and translator recruitment. This audit was also successfully passed.

We are proud to have successfully renewed our ISO 17100 certification and delighted that our quality management and processes have now also been officially deemed exemplary by a major industrial client.
